Florida Comprehensive Hurricane Damage Mitigation Program
(My Safe Florida Home Program)
We cannot stop hurricanes from hitting Florida, but we can make our homes better able to survive them. It has been proven that homes built to modern Florida building codes survive catastrophic hurricanes amazingly well. In an effort to start hurricane-proofing our state, the Legislature created the Florida Comprehensive Hurricane Damage Mitigation Program (also known as My Safe Florida Home Program). The program provides free home inspections to identify improvements that can be made to make homes more hurricane-proof. The program will also be awarding matching grants of up to $5,000 to fund such wind mitigation projects. The homeowner must use a participating contractor to be eligible for the grant. The program and all of its details can be accessed at MySafeFloridaHome.com.
